Early years and music life

Chandrima the soothing voice from the valleys of Assam, in early days got her formal training in classical music from Dr Manjulika Hazarika of Lucknow Gharana and Dr Prabal Sarma of Gwalior Gharana of Assam. In initial days Chandrima started her career and made her mark as an All India Radio artiste in Guwahati under domain of Bhajan singer. She gained her masters in music from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh in Hindustani classial music. Thereafter when she moved to the cultural city of Kolkata in pursuit of her musical career, she continued her training under the able guidance of Bidushi Smt Shipra Basu for harnessing the skills of Semiclassical musics and also received vocal training from musician Shri Goutam Ghosal. From early days, Chandrima made her niche as a performing artist taking her shows from various parts of Bengal and almost all states of India.

Music Albums

Her maiden Album release in 2006 “Sapnaneel” brought her recognition as an vocalist. The album released from Prime music upheld some modern musical genius of contemporary music. Her next solo-album “Tribute to legends”, was released in 2010 from Raaga Music under the auspices of the legendary Manna Dey himself. “Tribute to legend” relived some priceless nostalgias of Bengal, and has earned rave reviews.

“Amar Chokher Ghare” was the album released by INRECO in 2016 which consist of six Bengali romantic songs which are penned by eminent poet of Bengal Srijato and music composed by the maestro Joy Sarkar. The album depicts a picture of romanticism in the contours of changing seasons of Bengal.

Musical shows

The forte of Chandrima is however her experimental work on music. Her premier project “Sangachadhwam” at Indian Council of Cultural Relations(ICCR), with legendary singer Srabani Sen, pertaining to Tagore’s relevance on contemporary music, created ripples and received critics attention from print & electronic media. Her other experimental project on demand is “Love stories love songs”, where she teams up with Entertainer Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, to present research on stories behind the onscreen actors and actresses of yesteryears. This performance which have pulled repeat audience many times in Kolkata as well as in other states, is one of highly rated shows aired in social media networks like Youtube & Facebook.

Apart from innumerable stage performances, she has made a notable career for herself with background scoring of many TV serials and live performance in reputed channels of All India Radio, Doordarshan, Zee Bangla, Tara Music, Akash Aath, Betar Bangla London, and Channel 9 UK.


From early days, Chandrima has made her niche as a performing artist taking her shows from various parts of Bengal to neighboring states and eventually to the bigger platforms at the national level, standing shoulder to shoulder with other singers of repute. She made her foray on the international arena for the first time, at the curtain raiser of Purba Bangla event at Banga Bandhu International Convention Centre, Dhaka in 2008. Her elegance and panache was immediately noticed, and adequately rewarded by international organizers, when she was invited to London in summer 2012. Her breezy performance in “London Boisakhi Bongo Mela 1419” made inroads into the hearts of million Bengalis overseas. She again gained her passage to London in London Sharad Utsav in 2012 and her back to back performance of London Sharad Utsav 2013. She was invited to Bengalore to present her unique experimental style of music in Durga Puja events of premier Bengali Associations of Bangalore in 2014 and again in 2015.

Chandrima a globe trotter, is considered as one of the leading versatile singer of present days. Considered as modern singer she has bend of musical expertise with huge range in all forms of Indian music ranging from Ghazal, Semi Classical to melodious Indian fusion music of movies and albums. Her experimental work on use of minimal musicians to reproduce old classics in western format of Jazz and pop has made her unique in her repertoire of musical presentation. Chandrima is however well known as a performing artiste and considered one of best talent in stage showmanship befitting the occasions and events. Her flamboyance in Hindi, Bengali and Assamese song presentation are ideal for any corporate shows as well as other public events.
